Directions:
From North Jersey: Garden State Parkway South to Exit 117 (Keyport/Hazlet) to Highway 36 South (East) for 12 miles to Highlands. Make the last right turn before the Highlands Bridge which is Portland Rd. (Off The Hook Restaurant is on the corner). Make a second immediate right turn onto Highland Avenue and pass condominiums on left. The next intersection will be Lighthouse Road, (steep angle on left). Bear left onto Lighthouse Road; follow this road into the Twin Lights parking lot.

From South Jersey: Garden State Parkway North to Exit 105(Tinton Falls/Eatontown); Follow Highway 36 North (East) to Long Branch (also known as Joline Ave); Highway 36 turns left onto Ocean Ave. and heads north; Go through the towns of Monmouth Beach, and Seabright. Pass the entrance to Sandy Hook, Gateway National Recreation Area, cross the Highlands Bridge; take the first right turn off the bridge into Highlands; loop down under the bridge and up the other side of it; at the top of the hill go straight onto Highland Ave. The next intersection will be Lighthouse Road, (steep angle on left). Bear left onto Lighthouse Road; follow this road into the Twin Lights parking lot.

Free parking is available in employee parking lots
adjacent to and behind the Museum. Use the Calhoun
Street exit off of Route 29. At traffic light, turn
right onto West State Street. Take your first right
which is a driveway between the Department of State
building and the Museum and Auditorium. Following this
driveway to the back of the Museum will lead to the
Museum and State Department Parking lot.

If you can help coordinate aspects of this picnic such as food, children’s activities or
cooking at the event, or help on the day of the event let me know!

From toll, take Route 32 West to South River-Cranbury Rd (CR 535) south toward Cranbury.Cross US Route 130 at a "Dog-Leg" intersection. Continue on Cranbury Rd. south to the first left past Bennet Place into the Village Park.
From US Route 1, North or South

Take the Scudders Mill Rd exit toward Plainsboro. Scudders Mill Rd. turns into Plainsboro-Cranbury Rd. (CR 6104). Follow Plainsboro-Cranbury Rd. into Cranbury and turn Right onto Maplewood Avenue and the first left past Bennet Place into the Village Park.

Historic Walnford, in Crosswicks Creek Park, features a late 19th century gristmill, the elegant 18th century Waln Family home, a Carriage House and an assortment of farm buildings along the banks of Crosswicks Creek. This historic district includes 36 acres of field, woodland, and wetlands.  Tours are graciously being conducted by Sarah Bent, Historic Sites Supervisor for Historic Walnford.

At the fifth light, turn right at the Sunoco gas station (Sullivan Way). Proceed under the railroad bridge, keep to the left and proceed to the next traffic light. Turn right at the light (Lower Ferry Road). Just after crossing over the railroad tracks, take a right into the large parking lot and park behind the tall “Engineering & Operations” Building.  Enter the building complex at the tall building and check in with security. They will direct you to the multipurpose room. Please bring picture ID in case it's needed.

FROM NORTHWEST: Take either Route 206, Route 31 or Route 1 South to I-95 South. Take Exit 3A (Scotch Road). Proceed to the third traffic light and make a left (Parkway Avenue). The next traffic light will be Parkway Avenue and Lower Ferry Road. Turn right on Lower Ferry and take the first left into the large parking lot.  Follow directions “From NORTHEAST” above.

FROM SOUTH: Take I-295 North to Exit 60, then take Route 29 North. Follow directions "From NORTHEAST" above.

FROM PHILADELPHIA: Take I-95 North, go over the Scudder Falls Bridge. Take Exit 2 (Harbourton/West Trenton). At end of ramp, make a right (Bear Tavern Road). At first traffic light, make a left (West Upper Ferry Road, will become Parkway Avenue). The third traffic light will be Parkway Avenue and Lower Ferry Road.           Trenton's fascinating landmarks with the graves of many important and interesting people,
          including C.C. Abbott, General McClellan, The Roeblings and others. Charles Webster,

Directions to Newfield United Methodist Church:
 From the north: Follow I-295 south to Route 42 (North-South Freeway) at
Bellmawr, Camden County.  On Route 42, keep right and take the exit for
Route 55.  Follow Route 55 south to Exit 39, and follow Route 40 (Harding
Hwy.) eastward to the intersection with Route 47 (Delsea Drive) at Malaga.
There is a Wawa store on one corner and a CVS pharmacy on another.  Proceed
straight ahead. You will come to a sharp bend in the road, at which point
you will notice a railroad on your left.  Follow the road into Newfield.
The railroad will be on your left the whole way.  As you approach downtown
Newfield, you will see the Woodstown National Bank (the sign says WNB) on a
corner on your right.  Turn here (Columbia Avenue). The church is one block
to the west, again on your right. From the northeast: Make your way onto
I-195, pick up I-295, and proceed as above.

 From the south: Make you way onto Route 55 and proceed northward to Exit 35.
Exit to the right, which puts you eastbound on Garden Road. Follow Garden
Road to the east, past Route 47.  You will come to a railroad crossing at
the intersection with the Boulevard. A miniature golf course and ice cream
stand will be on your left. Turn left and follow the Boulevard northward
into Newfield. Continue north through the main intersection (with the
blinker signal) one block to Columbia Avenue. The Woodstown National Bank
(the sign says WNB) will be on the corner. Turn left and follow Columbia
Avenue one block to the church.

 From the east: Follow Route 40 to Newfield vicinity. You will see a couple
of small streets that intersect the highway from the west (Madison Avenue,
and Rosemont Avenue). Continue on Route 40. You will pass under a power
line. The next intersection is Lake Road.  Turn left here. Cross the
railroad and turn left again. Follow the road into Newfield. Turn right onto
Columbia Avenue (at the Woodstown National Bank [WNB]). The church is one
block to the west.

 From the west: Get onto Route 40, and follow it eastward to the intersection
with Route 47 at Malaga. At this point, follow the directions from the
north.

This National Register site contains eleven standing structures and ruins including 18th- and 19th-century blast furnaces and reconstructed water wheels. The Visitors Center / Museum will also be open to tour participants. We will carpool from Shepherd Lake Lodge to the site. The tour will be led by Martin Deeks.
