AWARDS OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF NEW JERSEY

Since 1977, the Archaeological Society of New Jersey has officially recognized the contributions of some of its members who had given freely of their time and talents for the benefit of the Society. Those acknowledged are listed below.

Fellow of the Society

This award is granted to only those individuals who, through publication or scholarship, have made an outstanding and enduring contribution to the pre-Contact or historical archaeology or ethnology of New Jersey. This award also takes into consideration original research, theory, or fieldwork in related fields, such as the paleogeography and paleoenvironment of our state, and works relating to the Lenape or Delaware peoples now residing outside our political boundaries. Achievement Award

This award recognizes extraordinary contributions to pre-Contact and historical archaeology and related subjects in the realm of theory or fieldwork, and/or consistent efforts on behalf of the Society, its goals, or the goals of archaeology in general. Those recognized include:

Appreciation Award

This award recognizes significant services or contributions to the Society or one of its Chapters beyond the normal duties imposed by office or committee responsibilities. Those so honored have consistently promoted the goals of the Society. Some, for example, have made their collections and field notes available for scholarly use and publication, others have freely offered their specialized knowledge and talents in the fields of soil, lithic, faunal, or floral analysis. This award recognizes the contributions of those individuals who have consistently and unselfishly worked to promote the welfare of the Society or its Chapters, and who have encouraged fellowship among the members, or, who, through their good example and interest, have promoted the cause of responsible archaeology.
